Family Mission Trip - March 2023
Sun, March 26
Today was our first morning all together as a team of 23 and we began with a short discussion about Mexican and Mayan culture. After a delicious breakfast prepared by our wonderful volunteer cooks, Connie and Cheryl, we headed off in the vans to Calvary Centro, Gary and Joanne’s home church in Merida. Today’s message was based on a passage in 2 Thessalonians 3:1-15 - a warning from Paul reminding us not to live an idle life. There are many things that distract us in our busy lives, that steer us away from the path that God has set for us. Pastor Robert Aguayo prayed for our team, that having been taken out of our regular lives and our comfort zones that we would be open to what God wants to speak into our lives.
Following the services we enjoyed a delicious lunch all together at Los Trompos in downtown Merida before heading out to experience a typical Sunday afternoon in the centre of town. Walking around the market at Plaza Principal de Merida, we saw so many local artisans and food vendors. The colors of all of the Mayan handicrafts were so vibrant. We were amazed at the architecture of the beautiful buildings lining the square and enjoyed the art on display within the governor’s palace. We learned that the Cathedral de San Ildefonso is one of the oldest cathedrals in North America!
Upon returning to the C-Quest villa, the pool was a welcome reprieve from the 37 degree temperatures in Merida! We ended the day with an overview of the program that we will be sharing at various ministries this week - including a skit, puppet show, chalk art, gospel illusion and balloon animals. We’re all heading to bed knowing that it’s going to be a full and wonderful week of ministry ahead!
