RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Final Blog
Reflection time. What exactly is a “Mission trip”? The Troyan family was extremely excited to be going on a Mission trip. Jaylene and Paul to experience something new; Danielle to see her besty; Esther, because she had never done it before. We all hear stories about saving the world, doing God’s work, helping humanity. Now, I will attempt to share our story and reflections on what a mission trip is. First and foremost you feel the Lord’s hand in everything – the group, your c

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 8
Today we completed our final outreach program in a pueblo called Hunucma. By far, this is the poorest community we have been exposed to during this trip. For some of us, the poorest we have ever seen. If you have ever watched a World Vision commercial where the child is sitting in front of a cement or dirt floor hut, no shoes, flies buzzing, a pot cooking on an open campfire, and the property scattered with garbage – this is what we were introduced to today, and where Pastor

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 7
Our team had a busy Saturday with Pastor Miguel. -Performance at Pastor Miguel's Church (Coca-Cola Stage) and barbeque -Prayer for Pastor Miguel's New Church Site -Break from the heat with an ice cream at the Mall -Performance at Samaritan’s Purse Orphanage and gifts for the children We had a great turnout at both performances. Pastor Miguel was very pleased with the new faces at the event and their responses to the gospel message. The children always seem to enjoy the progra

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 6
When we decided to come to Progreso for the mission trip, we knew that we would have incredible experiences, never imagining it would be both complicated and amazing; from the visa process and going to hospitals, to seeing children’s smiles and the first picture of our future son; to living together for a week with amazing families. It has helped us understand that there is a God who is alive and who never ceases to amaze us, day-by-day. Day 6 in Progreso began with prayer fr

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 5
Thursday started early with the Wilson’s leading morning devotion with prayer time on the beach. If you can’t see God in the ocean and the beautiful surroundings then you really need to look at your heart, which has been what our family has mainly focused on! We started the day doing manual labour – not necessarily the type of labour I was expecting! I was expecting to pick up a hammer, but instead I was relegated to farming TOMATOES (staking) and Papayas, while Paul picked u

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 4
What is your story? Where are you from? Who loves you? Every person we meet, no matter what their skin color or socio-economic background, has a story that deserves to be heard. And more importantly, we all crave to be intimately known by our Creator. Our visit today to the senior orphanage at the Casa de Los Abuelos, with Pastor Miguel, pierced our hearts in many ways. Many of the team members, ourselves included, saw the difference that a meal, the hope of Jesus, and some p

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 3
This morning the Team practiced the complete Missionary Arts Program – “Noah” in preparation for tomorrow afternoon’s performance. This was Day 2 of practice, and with God’s good grace and the help of the Holy Spirit things were starting to shape up nicely in terms of our preparedness. This afternoon we went on a day excursion to a nearby Mayan ruins called Dzibilchaltun. Dating back to 2000 BC through to 1600 AD, it marked the arrival of the Spaniards in the middle of the 16

RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 2
After a busy but fun-filled first day, it's safe to say that the theme so far has been stretching ourselves and stepping out of our comfort zones. All of us had the opportunity to try our hands at drama, dance, puppetry, and balloon animals. Not exactly the kind of skills that are part of our daily routines in Calgary! However, we are all part of the team and refuse to laugh at each other’s dance skills or lack thereof. During a trip to downtown Progreso we stumbled our way t
