RockPointe Family Adventure Trip - Day 6

When we decided to come to Progreso for the mission trip, we knew that we would have incredible experiences, never imagining it would be both complicated and amazing; from the visa process and going to hospitals, to seeing children’s smiles and the first picture of our future son; to living together for a week with amazing families. It has helped us understand that there is a God who is alive and who never ceases to amaze us, day-by-day.

Day 6 in Progreso began with prayer from the Troyan family. Jaylene, a 10 year old, led us in prayer. She was very confident and spirituality mature for her age. Her prayers touched our hearts and reminded us to be thankful to God. Later, we went for a walk on the beach, read, rested, and had a siesta. It was a relaxing morning which included, like always, an incredible meal that prepared us for the day ahead.

After a relaxing morning, we had the opportunity to visit a village called Baca where we performed our program for the children and their families. Like always, it was a learning experience. We are all different and have different ways of receiving and living for God. Our experience at Baca showed us that when we gather in the name of God, language or age is not a barrier. We all do our best to know God, who helps us overcome our own limits. We saw this clearly as our children took on their roles joyfully, bringing them closer to God.

Another teaching is that there are differences between “Colombian” Spanish and “Mexican” Spanish. A lesson Andres learned in a very unique way; however, we will let him tell his experience another time.

The event ended on a high note with an official Calgary Stampede hat placed on our Gama’s head [our Mexican pastor in Baca], honoring the Calgary spirit – with smiles of satisfaction for the work accomplished by all.
