Brentview Baptist Youth Mission Trip

Ministry Day 2 – Wednesday

Today for our cultural day, our team explored a historic site called Dzibilchaltún – ruins from an ancient civilization with architecture ranging from ancient Mayan temples and village squares [stadiums], to little huts that the Maya people used to live in. We visited the museum, which had a collection of artifacts discovered by archaeologists, as well as many hieroglyphics written by the Maya people. Personally, I didn’t understand what the symbols meant, but it was still fun to see.

After leaving the museum, we walked to an ancient cenote [sacred well] where we spent time swimming and jumping into the water, with tiny fish nibbling on our toes. Also, while walking through the ruins, Gary led us on a prayer walk to pray for our ministry days ahead.

Once we got back to the base we rehearsed for our ministry programs, packed up equipment for our pancake serve tomorrow at the seniors home and the hospital, and had some time to ourselves during siesta – which is always a high point of the day.
