Dalmeny Community Church - Day 5
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 The week leading up to coming on this trip my heart was empty. But as the days have passed here in Progreso I have felt my heart filling and I’m reminded of why mission trips are so important. God calls us to serve Him one at a time, at the right time and for the right reasons. Today was my favorite day. I had the GREAT privilege of cooking at Redberry Bible camp for 4 years. They were probably some of my favorite summers in my life. The man who asked me to cook at camp was Wendell Andres. Wendell is on the trip with this team. Seems we have come full circle. Wendell is now involved with Children’s Camps International and he continues to follow God in this ministry. I’m not sure where God will lead but my heart has always been drawn to camp ministry. We will see where it goes. But for today we got to work alongside, Gama, the camp director of Camp John 3:16. We painted the kitchen, poured concrete pillars for the gate entrance, the kids painted the bottom of the palm tree so they wouldn’t be damaged by bugs, and we enjoyed a great Mexican meal. It’s great to be a small part of preparing the camp for all the children that will attend there. Praying many hearts will be changed.
In the evening we went to Hunucma, a poor village, where we did a mini CampQuest event alongside Miguel's (the National CampQuest director) church for the children in a church plant. We danced, sang, crafted, and filled all their belly’s full (including their parents). With the hour drive home we got back pretty late so we all crashed. It was a great day! Continue to pray that we can reach more kids with these camp events, that we have lots of energy, and that we can finish off strong.
