Fluevog Blog - Wrap-Up!
Hola Amigos y Amigas!
Since the last post we have been busy dipping our toes into some traditional Mexican experiences. We were treated to a refreshing Cenote swim, complete with little nibbling fish and Mayan warriors. We spent the evening wandering the central market in Merida looking at colourful garments and eating too much sugar!
Our final day was spent on the beach with the orphans - a beautiful way to say Hasta luego to this C-Quest experience! We played in the sand, sun and sea with the children, whom we had previously met earlier in the week. With smiles on all our faces, we filled our bellies with a yummy lunch of hot-dogs, burgers, salads and watermelon. For the team members from trips past, it was really cool to see the same kids and how far each of them have grown year after year. Amazing kids for sure!
But the fun was far from over - A piñata awaited! We sang and cheered until the last candy fell. To end our time together we presented each child with a backpack filled with gifts, including the Math Sale items ;) and that's when their faces really lit up. Their gratitude, expressed with smiles, hugs and kisses, warmed our hearts and provided us with a gift we will cherish for a long time to come.
As the team spent time reflecting on the week, we all could agree on the same thing - that this experience is one that truly changed and challenged our hearts and we will return home with a new understanding of what it means to serve and authentically care for those around us.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts Joanne and Gary. Their generosity and hospitality have been a true blessing.
And finally, a heartfelt thank you to John and Ruth for providing us with this fulfilling opportunity. We look forward to continuing our Fluevog + C-Quest journey for many years to come.
XOXO
