Millar College of the Bible Mission Trip

Day 8 in Mexico! After several days of ministry projects we had a day off to relax and explore. The weather was the coolest we have experienced so far, after record breaking temperatures. Days like this our meant to provide our team with time to be refreshed during our service here, as well as grow together as a team so our ministry is more effective. We went out to Celestun (located on the very tip of the Yucatán Peninsula) on a boat tour to see flamingos and the mangroves. It was a blessing to see God’s vast creation and how he has revealed himself through the beauty of this world.

My favorite part of the day was going to a fresh water pool at the end of our tour. There we met a sweet Mexican lady who was not shy speaking with foreigners. There was an instant connection between us because of our belief in Jesus Christ, even though there was a slight language barrier. Meeting people like this that has been the most impacting factor on this trip. Between the testimonies of our hosts Gary and Joanne (how they started C Quest), the members of the church in Progresso, and Gama (the director of Camp John 3:16), the common theme was what God can do through those who have confidence in Him.

Today when we started out on the boats, we had to change plans slightly to accommodate for the strong winds and large waves, which was a whole experience in itself. As we cruised through 5-foot waves, I was reminded of Matthews 14:25-33 when Jesus invites Peter to walk on the water and in verse 31 he says, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” So often I find myself like Peter, wanting to do the big things, but seeing the trouble and backing out of fear. But the Mexican Christians have been an encouragement to me of what living by faith and obeying God even in the unsteady waters of life looks like.

We still have three more weeks out here, and our team would appreciate prayers for:

  • Our health and energy in the heat.

  • Our ability to communicate in Spanish.

  • A spiritual harvest to come out of the work that we do here.

I can’t wait to see what God will continue to do in lives of the people here and in the individuals on our team. God is powerful, and He can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.
